Red fruit, damask rose, bold leather
J'Adoube takes its name from the chess call for adjusting a piece without moving it. The perfume itself is anything but hesitant: red currant, mandarin oil and pomegranate open onto a rose heart that settles into leather, patchouli and Ambrostar. Nathalie Benareau composed it for Mind Games as a fruity leather.

The store’s selection is really good and comprehensive. Placing an order was very easy, and shipping was really fast. The fragrances were well packed and they were all...
The composition
The curve shows the order in which the notes come forward, not their strength.
On the skin
The first thing is a sharp, juicy red fruit: Rouge Groseille DI, which the brand's description calls red currant, with mandarin oil from Madagascar for a rounder citrus lift. It is tart and clear, with a gloss to it, and it sets the tone before the rose arrives.
The heart pairs bright red pomegranate with Damascene rose. The pomegranate keeps the fruit going, juicy and slightly tart, and the rose adds a petal softness and a faint velvet warmth. The two stay in balance instead of turning into jam; the middle is still more lit than dark.
The base is bold: Ambrostar, Benzoin Vintage Leather and patchouli oil from Sulawesi. The brand reads it as leather, patchouli and Ambrostar, and the perfumer ties that strength to the rook. The leather feels solid and upright, with the earth of patchouli beneath it and a soft, resinous sweetness at the edges.
Wearing it
J'Adoube fits autumn and winter evenings, and any occasion where a firm, composed impression suits you. Apply one or two sprays; the red fruit shows quickly, and the leather needs a little time on the skin. A dense extrait like this is best kept to a modest amount.
People who enjoy leather but want some brightness in it, in the form of fruit and flowers, and who value a perfume with a definite spine. It is unisex, and it suits anyone who likes the contrast of tart red fruit against a dark, resinous base.
The name is a quiet idea, adjusting without moving, while the perfume is confident. That gap is what makes it interesting: fruit and rose stay precise, then the leather base turns firm. It is a clear structure from a single perfumer, with notes the brand publishes openly.
Questions
It is the chess call for adjusting a piece without making a move. Mind Games names its perfumes after chess ideas, and the perfumer ties this one's base to the strength of the rook.
Yes, in the fruity leather family: red fruit and rose lead, and the leather, patchouli and Ambrostar base gives it its backbone.
Keep to one or two sprays on the chest or wrists. Give it a few minutes on the skin, because the leather and patchouli develop gradually.
The bottle is 100 ml and holds an Extrait de Parfum, so a modest amount per application is all it needs.
The house
Mind Games is a chess-themed niche house created by Alex and Mariana Shalbaf. Each perfume is an ‘aromatic movement’ that mirrors a move or idea from the game, and every full-size perfume is an Extrait de Parfum in a 100 ml glass flacon with a metal cap shaped like a chess piece.

Very good quality profume, it last long and it has a good price for its incredible aroma and mixes of fruit and wood smell
A cozy, slightly sensual vanilla that feels like warm night air by the sea. Easy to love if you enjoy gourmand perfumes with a soft smoky edge.
This perfume is really well blended, I just removed a star because I personnaly don't like the top note (citronella)
Placing the order was very easy. Shipping was very fast. I am completely satisfied.
Good cologne, love the citrus and ginger scent making it a playful combo while the tea base makes it a bit more mature. Great for the gym
FragranceGems is again really quick with their releases. I hope this one smells better than Too Damn Good. Already rating a 5 star because of previous experiences!!
Already pre-order. As always, FragranceGems is the first with good releases. Looking forward to my bottle!
The cap of the bottle came with a small part of it broken off and the glass pieces were in the box
