Intensity is our own editorial label, not a laboratory measurement. We read the notes, the weight of the base and the concentration, and file a perfume as light when it sits close to the skin, shows citrus, florals, tea or clean musks and has little heavy resin or syrup underneath. It is a perfume you can wear without it entering the room before you do.
Light does not mean weak, and it does not mean simple. Several of the perfumes here have a very precise idea: a tulip, a matcha ritual, a single musk. They are built to be quiet, and quiet takes care. Their charm lies in details that a heavier perfume would cover.
Light perfumes are at their best in warm weather, in shared offices, on dates and for anyone who finds heavy perfumes tiring. Look for notes such as musk, tea, citrus, tulip or iris and a base of light woods. If you want a little more presence, add one more spray instead of switching to a darker perfume. Our guide to applying perfume and making it last shows how to apply a perfume so that it sits well.
Light perfumes from the houses on our brands page:
Byredo La Tulipe is built around the tulip: cyclamen, freesia and rhubarb on top, tulip in the heart, and blonde woods and vetiver below.
Juliette Has a Gun Musc Invisible is a soft, soapy musk of jasmine absolute, cotton flower and white musk.
Le Labo Thé Matcha 26 lists a matcha tea accord, fig, vetiver, cedar woods and bitter orange, and the house presents it as a skin scent.
Matière Première Parisian Musc is built on ambrette seed from Peru, with Virginia cedar oil, ambrettolide, Ambroxan and fig leaf.
Fascent L'Eau d'Or Dort has bergamot, citron and lemon at the top, orange blossom, petit grain and a clean linen accord in the heart, and aldehydes and white musk below.
Al Ambra Dubai Musk is a soft extrait of bergamot, black currant and soft musk, with magnolia, mandarin orange and sandalwood in the heart, and musk and Hedione in the base.
Diptyque L'Ombre dans l'Eau gathers rose, blackcurrant buds, petitgrain and blackcurrant leaves into one green, fruity floral.
Light perfumes
No. Light describes how a perfume sits and how much space it takes, not its quality. A light perfume can be precise and distinctive, and many are built around one clear idea such as a flower, a tea or a musk.
They suit warm weather best, but a light perfume is useful all year in offices, at home and wherever a softer presence is welcome.
Yes. A light musk or a clean woody scent is a good choice for a quiet dinner or a close conversation. For a crowded or formal evening, look at the richer concentrations instead.

Very good quality profume, it last long and it has a good price for its incredible aroma and mixes of fruit and wood smell
A cozy, slightly sensual vanilla that feels like warm night air by the sea. Easy to love if you enjoy gourmand perfumes with a soft smoky edge.
This perfume is really well blended, I just removed a star because I personnaly don't like the top note (citronella)
Placing the order was very easy. Shipping was very fast. I am completely satisfied.
Good cologne, love the citrus and ginger scent making it a playful combo while the tea base makes it a bit more mature. Great for the gym
