Four styles inside the family

• Clean and airy: white musk with aldehydes, citrus, tea or marine notes.
• Powdery and floral: musks under iris, violet, peony or rose.
• Creamy and warm: musks with sandalwood, vanilla, amber or milky accords.

• Fascent Radical Softness from Fascent is called musky, soft and sensual: pink pepper and white tea open, cyclamen and frangipani form the heart, and a skin-to-skin accord, Ambrox and white musk make the base.
• Byredo Blanche pairs aldehyde and Centifolia rose with peony and violet, then rests on musks and sandalwood. Byredo files it as floral.
• Nishane Wūlóng Chá opens with bergamot, orange, litsea and mandarin, brings in oolong tea and nutmeg, and ends on musk and fig. Nishane calls it citrus, green and musky.
• Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur places amber, vanilla and musk in the heart and returns to sandalwood and musk, after bergamot, mandarin and lavender. Frederic Malle files it as amber.

How to choose

Start with the mood you want. For a fresh, daytime feel choose the clean and airy end, where citrus, tea or marine notes sit above the musk. For softness with a little glow, look at powdery florals. For something that wraps, pick musks with sandalwood, amber or vanilla. Because the structure is simple, the quality of the musk matters, so read the pyramid for what surrounds it. Higher concentrations, such as an extrait, tend to hold the effect closer to the skin for longer.
