Silk Road cedar, patchouli and resins
Taklamakan is named after one of the world's largest deserts, on the Silk Road. The brand calls the scent hot and dry like its shifting sands and pictures a route along the spice trail, where Indian patchouli meets vanilla and resins before ending at cedar from China. Calabrian bergamot, osmanthus and neroli open the way.

The store’s selection is really good and comprehensive. Placing an order was very easy, and shipping was really fast. The fragrances were well packed and they were all...
The composition
The curve shows the order in which the notes come forward, not their strength.
On the skin
Calabrian bergamot, osmanthus and neroli open it. Bergamot gives a bright, slightly bitter citrus lift, neroli a clean orange-flower freshness, and osmanthus a soft, apricot-like floral warmth. The start is light and airy, like the first stretch of road before the desert.
Chinese cedar and Indian patchouli take the middle. The cedar is dry and clean, the patchouli earthy and a little dark, and in the brand's picture the patchouli of India meets cedar from China at the end of the route. This is where the scent turns from bright to dry and woody.
Vanilla, cistus, benzoin and musk make the base. Cistus and benzoin are resins: cistus sticky, warm and a little leathery, benzoin balsamic and sweet. Vanilla softens them, the brand speaks of smoky vanilla, and musk keeps the finish smooth and close to the skin.
Wearing it
Taklamakan fits the calendar easily: autumn and spring suit it best, by day or into the evening. The citrus top gives it lift in mild weather, and cedar and resins keep it dry rather than sugary. Two or three sprays are plenty, fewer in heat, when resins can feel thick.
Anyone who likes a perfume that starts bright and finishes calm and dry, with cedar and resins in between. It suits those who enjoy a scent with a sense of place: the Silk Road in the name, Indian patchouli and Chinese cedar in the notes. A calm choice for daily wear in mild weather.
The first collection of the house, by its founder Stéphane Humbert Lucas, grew out of his travels in the Middle East and the Orient. Taklamakan carries that idea forward with a desert and a trade route as its subject, and with notes whose names already point to two countries.
Questions
Both, in that order. It opens with bergamot, osmanthus and neroli, turns to cedar and patchouli, and ends warm with vanilla, cistus, benzoin and musk.

Yes, in cool and mild weather it is easy to wear, since the opening is bright and the base is dry rather than sugary. In summer heat, use a lighter hand.
The strength is Eau de Parfum and the size 50 ml, which suits a resinous, woody composition and helps the cedar and patchouli hold their shape.
The house
Stéphane Humbert Lucas is an artistic perfume house from Paris, led by a painter and poet who calls himself a synesthete and says he sees his fragrances in colours. The first collection drew on his travels in the Middle East, and the Serpent collection builds on snake legends from around the world.

Very good quality profume, it last long and it has a good price for its incredible aroma and mixes of fruit and wood smell
A cozy, slightly sensual vanilla that feels like warm night air by the sea. Easy to love if you enjoy gourmand perfumes with a soft smoky edge.
This perfume is really well blended, I just removed a star because I personnaly don't like the top note (citronella)
Placing the order was very easy. Shipping was very fast. I am completely satisfied.
Good cologne, love the citrus and ginger scent making it a playful combo while the tea base makes it a bit more mature. Great for the gym
FragranceGems is again really quick with their releases. I hope this one smells better than Too Damn Good. Already rating a 5 star because of previous experiences!!
Already pre-order. As always, FragranceGems is the first with good releases. Looking forward to my bottle!
The cap of the bottle came with a small part of it broken off and the glass pieces were in the box
