Juliette Has a Gun: a guide to the house and its perfumes

Juliette Has a Gun was created by Romano Ricci, whom the brand describes as its artistic director, someone who bonds with each fragrance. It says it was created in France, between Paris and Grasse. The name pictures Shakespeare's Juliet in the 21st century, carrying a gun: a metaphor, the brand explains, for perfume as a weapon of seduction. A perfume built on a single material. Cetalox is a molecule normally used only as a base note, and here the brand lists it at the top, in the heart and in the base. The result is presented as a clean, skin-like scent, woody, musky and ambery, that blends with your own skin and can be worn by any gender; the brand also suggests it as a booster under other perfumes. It is the most rated of the ten on Parfumo, and the brand lists it among its best sellers.

Vanilla Vibes

A fusion of two opposites: natural vanilla absolute twisted with sea salt, so that the sweetness turns mineral and airy. Sea salt is the top note, natural vanilla absolute the heart and musk the base. The brand ties it to desert adventure and freedom, and rates its volume as high.

Lady Vengeance

A rose perfume, presented as the scent of a confident, thorny and sensual lady. The pyramid runs from lavender essence through Bulgarian rose absolute to vanilla absolute, and the brand's text adds patchouli.

Mmmm...

Named after a murmur of delight. The pyramid is neroli essence, orange blossom absolute and patchouli essence; the brand's text, written like a recipe, mentions further ingredients that the pyramid does not list. It calls the result a zero-calorie treat.

Pear Inc.

A fruity musk built around green pear, with Ambroxan in the heart and musks in the base. The brand ties it to childhood memories of pears and describes a fresh, slightly gourmand scent that lifts the mood. Its volume rating is middle.

Musc Invisible

A soft, soapy musk: jasmine absolute on top, cotton flower in the heart and white musk in the base. The creator describes the smell of clean skin that has only just begun to warm up. It is the one perfume of the ten that the brand rates as low in volume.

Lust for Sun

Summer by the pool. A veil of monoi and coconut lies over a white-flower cocktail of ylang ylang, orange blossom and gardenia; bergamot, coconut and freesia are the top notes, gardenia, monoi, orange blossom and ylang ylang the heart, and Ambroxan, musks and vanilla the base. Romano Ricci imagined it as Juliette's playground, her swimming pool.

Ode to Dullness

A minimal, cosy scent about finding poetry in the ordinary. Badiane, which is star anise, and freesia open it, cashmere flower and sandalwood follow, and musks with tonka bean close it. The brand says it should feel like a soft blanket on a rainy day.

Miami Shake

A creamy strawberry gourmand modelled on a milkshake. Wild strawberry is the top note, whipped cream, orange blossom and an ice cream cone note make the heart, and vanilla absolute and creamy musk the base. The brand stages it in a pastel pink Miami villa and calls it the first truly gourmand perfume of its collection.

Not a Perfume Superdose

The intense take on Not a Perfume: the same construction on cetalox alone, at a concentration of 20% that the brand compares to the power of an essence. It keeps the clean, woody, musky, ambery profile and adds volume. The brand labels it Eau de Parfum and sells it in 100 ml and 7.5 ml only.
