Nasomatto: a guide to the house and its perfumes

Nasomatto is the first project of the Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri, known as The Nose, and it publishes no notes for any of its perfumes. This guide takes the ten Nasomatto Extraits we list in order of release and tells you what the house does say: the idea, the cap and the year.

Nasomatto Black Afgano Extrait de Parfum 30 ml bottle

Nasomatto is the first project of the Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri, who is known as The Nose. The brand's own pages date its oldest perfumes to 2007. In 2014 he added a second project, Orto Parisi, which has a guide of its own. The name Nasomatto is Italian and means roughly crazy nose. We list ten perfumes in the Nasomatto collection, and the house also appears in our overview of Italian niche perfume houses.

What the house stands for

Nasomatto withholds what most houses print on the box. There is no pyramid and no list of notes. Each product page gives one or two sentences that begin with the same words, This bottle of perfume is part of the project Nasomatto, and then name the feeling or effect the perfume is after. The FAQ of the sister house says it outright: The Nose does not reveal the notes used in his creations. So this guide lists no notes and borrows none from elsewhere. Away from the perfumes, Gualtieri develops olfactory art projects that connect smell with the other senses, which the brand shows under its other projects.

What the perfumes have in common

All ten are Extrait de Parfum in a 30 ml bottle. An Extrait is the richest concentration in everyday use and is worn in small amounts; the term is in our perfume glossary, and every perfume of this strength is under Extrait de Parfum. The brand also sells a 4 ml roller with a concentrated perfume oil, which its FAQ says reveals itself more slowly than the extrait; we list the bottles. Every perfume has a cap of its own, made of a natural material that the product page describes. The pages state Made in Italy, while profiles of the perfumer place the house in Amsterdam and the brand's web store charges Dutch VAT according to its FAQ. If you are used to choosing by notes, our guide to reading a fragrance pyramid also covers houses that publish none.

The perfumes we list

In order of release, oldest first, by the year we have on record for each perfume; the three from 2007 are dated by the brand's own pages. Where reviews are mentioned, they are Fragrantica counts from early October 2026.

Duro

One of the three perfumes from 2007. In the brand's words it aims to enhance all the manifestations of male strength; that is the house describing an idea, and the bottle carries no gender label. The cap is wenge, which the brand calls one of the strongest types of timber.

Narcotic Venus

Written Narcotic V. on the bottle and on the brand's site; the longer name is the one Fragrantica and our catalogue use. The brand presents it as the result of a quest for an overwhelming, addictive intensity. Its cap is made of wild zebrawood.

Silver Musk

The third perfume of the first year. It aims to evoke what the brand calls superhero magnetism and comes from a quest for a mercurial, liquid love sensation. Walnut wood forms the cap. The name is only a name: the house lists no note for this perfume either.

Black Afgano

Released in 2009 and, with 1,062 reviews, the most reviewed Nasomatto on Fragrantica. The brand describes it as the result of a quest for the effects of temporary bliss. The cap is made of burnt oak. Beyond that the house says nothing about the contents, and neither do we.

Pardon

From 2011. The subject is persuasion: in the brand's phrase, the persuasion of utmost masculine elegance and charm. The cap is made of precious briarwood.

Blamage

Few houses introduce a perfume as a mistake. Nasomatto frames this one, from 2014, as an unwise and unfortunate creation caused by bad judgement. The cap is hazelwood lacquered in white, and the brand points out that cap shapes and sizes may differ, because each one reflects the uniqueness of nature.

Baraonda

From 2016. It is presented as a raw taste sensation, the outcome of a quest to evoke the powerful, mighty whisper of an olfactory stirring that rejoins the whole and the nothing. The cap is a mix of different corks from Portugal and Italy. With 595 reviews it is the second most reviewed of the ten.

Nudiflorum

From 2018: a quest to find a vanishing point in nature, a nude desire in the translucence of our senses, as the brand puts it. The cap is made of padauk wood. The name should not be read as a hint at an ingredient, because the brand gives none.

Fantomas

From 2020. An elusive hint towards a transgressive act carried out with the ease of refined precision: that single sentence is the brand's whole description. The cap is walnut wood wrapped in a thin metal casing with four reflective sides.

Sadonaso

The newest of the ten, from 2023. It rests on the idea that life has no purpose beyond the pleasure of the senses, and on a secret desire that the maker does not even know yet; the brand calls that secret the true future. The cap is beech wood lacquered in layers of black paint under a transparent glossy finish.

Where to start

  • Where most reviewers went: Black Afgano and Baraonda, the two with the most reviews.
  • The first year: Duro, Narcotic Venus and Silver Musk, all dated 2007.
  • An idea about people: Pardon for persuasion, Blamage for the perfume its maker calls a mistake.
  • An abstract mood: Nudiflorum, Fantomas and Sadonaso.

Without notes there are two honest ways to choose, by the idea and on your own skin. Seven of the ten are filed under evening perfumes in our catalogue, and Find your scent lets you start from a season or an occasion instead.
