Dark spice, honeyed rose, smoke
Moth follows an insect that cannot keep away from a flame. Tomoo Inaba opens it with a crowd of dark spices, lets them settle into honeyed rose and powdery florals, and ends in smoke, oud and dry woods. Zoologist describes the base as a reminder of the danger inside the flame. It is an Extrait de Parfum at 20%.

The store’s selection is really good and comprehensive. Placing an order was very easy, and shipping was really fast. The fragrances were well packed and they were all...
The composition
The curve shows the order in which the notes come forward, not their strength.
On the skin
Black pepper, cinnamon, clove, cumin, nutmeg and saffron open the scent together, with a little lemon to lift them. Cumin and saffron add a savoury, slightly dusty warmth, and the brand calls the opening rich and gothic. There is very little fresh air in it.
In the heart come rose, jasmine, iris, mimosa, heliotrope and muguet, a soft, powdery bouquet. The brand describes honeyed rose here, though the honey itself is listed in the base, so the sweetness builds as the perfume dries down rather than arriving all at once.
The base is long: ambergris, honey, resins, musk, oud, smoke, guaiac wood, nagarmotha, patchouli and vetiver. Guaiac, nagarmotha and patchouli give earthy, woody dryness, and the smoke sits under all of it. The brand marks ambergris, honey and musk as synthetic notes.
Wearing it
Moth is dense and spiced, so one or two sprays are enough. It belongs to autumn and winter and to evening plans. The spices come first and the smoke and woods arrive later, so give it a little time on the skin before judging it.
For anyone who likes spiced, smoky perfumes with a sweet floral core, the kind of person who prefers dark and dramatic to fresh and clean. It is listed as unisex and fits cold evenings, dinners and nights out. It is a poor match for anyone looking for a light daytime scent.
Tomoo Inaba is the named perfumer. Zoologist, the Toronto house founded by Victor Wong in 2013, names each of its perfumes after an animal and credits a different perfumer on every box. Moth is one of its dramatic ones: a story with a warning in it, told in spice, honey and smoke.
Questions
Dark, spiced and smoky over a sweet, powdery floral heart: pepper, clove and saffron first, then rose and iris, then oud, smoke and woods.
It is an Extrait de Parfum at 20%. That makes it a dense scent that sits close to the skin and is built to last, so two sprays are generally plenty.
Oud is one of ten base notes, next to smoke, guaiac wood, nagarmotha, patchouli and vetiver. It adds depth but does not lead; the spices and the florals come first.
At night and in cool weather: dinners, the theatre, autumn and winter. In summer heat the spice and the smoke can feel heavy.
The house
Zoologist is a Toronto house founded in 2013 by Victor Wong, where every perfume is named after an animal and made with a different named perfumer. The 60 ml bottles are Extrait de Parfum, and the scents run from honeyed florals and inky sea notes to smoky resins and cosy hay.

Very good quality profume, it last long and it has a good price for its incredible aroma and mixes of fruit and wood smell
A cozy, slightly sensual vanilla that feels like warm night air by the sea. Easy to love if you enjoy gourmand perfumes with a soft smoky edge.
This perfume is really well blended, I just removed a star because I personnaly don't like the top note (citronella)
Placing the order was very easy. Shipping was very fast. I am completely satisfied.
Good cologne, love the citrus and ginger scent making it a playful combo while the tea base makes it a bit more mature. Great for the gym
FragranceGems is again really quick with their releases. I hope this one smells better than Too Damn Good. Already rating a 5 star because of previous experiences!!
Already pre-order. As always, FragranceGems is the first with good releases. Looking forward to my bottle!
The cap of the bottle came with a small part of it broken off and the glass pieces were in the box
