A spiced caravan of dates, incense and oud
Camel sets out across an endless desert with treasure for a distant market, and Zoologist writes that caravan in rose, dried fruit, incense and myrrh. Perfumer Christian Carbonnel adds amber and cinnamon in the heart and an animalic-style base of musk, oud and vanilla. The result is spiced and sweet in equal measure. It is an Extrait de Parfum at 20%.

The store’s selection is really good and comprehensive. Placing an order was very easy, and shipping was really fast. The fragrances were well packed and they were all...
The composition
The curve shows the order in which the notes come forward, not their strength.
On the skin
The top pairs palm date and dried fruits with rose and frankincense, so it opens sweet, dark and slightly sticky, with the dryness of resin behind it. The brand speaks of dried fruit scented with rose and jasmine, which is a fair picture of this first layer: fruit, but perfumed.
The heart is a warm cloud of incense, myrrh, amber and cinnamon, with cedar for dry wood and jasmine and orange blossom for floral lift. The spice is gentle rather than fiery, and the resins keep everything slow and heavy, in the manner of an oriental.
Civet, musk and oud provide the animalic-style depth the brand describes, and vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and vetiver soften and dry it. The brand marks civet and musk as synthetic notes. The base is long and warm and stays close to the skin.
Wearing it
Camel is rich and warm, so apply it sparingly: one or two sprays on the chest or neck. It is made for cold evenings, for winter and for occasions where a spiced oriental feels at home, such as dinners or festive gatherings. In hot weather it can feel heavy.
For people who enjoy spiced orientals with incense, resin and oud, and who like their sweetness dark rather than creamy. It is listed as unisex. Anyone who wants a quick, fresh or clean impression should look elsewhere; this one asks for a little patience.
Christian Carbonnel is the named perfumer, and his name is printed on the box. The brand files Camel under animalic, incense, oud and spicy, with a sweet, gourmand side. The idea behind it is travel: a long road, a heavy load and a destination, written in resin, fruit and spice.
Questions
No. Zoologist marks civet and musk in this pyramid as synthetic, and states that every animal musk or civet in its ingredient lists is synthetic and marked with an asterisk.
It is rich and resinous, with oud and incense in the structure. The dried-fruit sweetness softens it, but it is a perfume for cooler weather and evenings more than for light daytime wear.
An Extrait de Parfum at 20% on the brand's page, so it is dense, sits close to the skin and is built to last. One or two sprays are enough for a base this heavy.
For someone who already enjoys orientals, incense and oud, yes. It is a rich scent and not an obvious choice for a person who prefers fresh or light perfumes.
The house
Zoologist is a Toronto house founded in 2013 by Victor Wong, where every perfume is named after an animal and made with a different named perfumer. The 60 ml bottles are Extrait de Parfum, and the scents run from honeyed florals and inky sea notes to smoky resins and cosy hay.

Very good quality profume, it last long and it has a good price for its incredible aroma and mixes of fruit and wood smell
A cozy, slightly sensual vanilla that feels like warm night air by the sea. Easy to love if you enjoy gourmand perfumes with a soft smoky edge.
This perfume is really well blended, I just removed a star because I personnaly don't like the top note (citronella)
Placing the order was very easy. Shipping was very fast. I am completely satisfied.
Good cologne, love the citrus and ginger scent making it a playful combo while the tea base makes it a bit more mature. Great for the gym
FragranceGems is again really quick with their releases. I hope this one smells better than Too Damn Good. Already rating a 5 star because of previous experiences!!
Already pre-order. As always, FragranceGems is the first with good releases. Looking forward to my bottle!
The cap of the bottle came with a small part of it broken off and the glass pieces were in the box
