Maison Margiela: a guide to the house and its perfumes

Maison Margiela is a Paris fashion house, founded in 1988 by the Belgian designer Martin Margiela. Its first fragrance, (untitled), came out in 2010, and Replica, its first fragrance collection, followed in 2012. The nine Replica perfumes we list are in the Maison Margiela collection.

What the house stands for

Replica takes its idea from the Maison's 1994 Replica fashion pieces: items found around the world and reproduced, each with a label naming the source and period of the original. The perfume bottles carry the same kind of cotton label, with four headings: Originally, Provenance and Period, Fragrance Description, Style Description. Each Replica is presented as a memory turned into a scent, and the brand sorts them by mood: warm and cozy, clean and fresh, sunny and invigorating, earthy and addictive.

What the perfumes have in common

All nine belong to Replica Memories, the range of Eaux de Toilette that comes in 100, 30 and 10 ml; ours are the 100 ml bottles. An Eau de Parfum line, Replica Fantasies, was added in 2024 and falls outside this guide, and our explainer on concentrations tells you what separates the two. Each product page gives a compact pyramid, three notes per level as a rule, and says in which form a material is used: essence, absolute, accord, resinoïd. The perfumes we list

The order is that of the Parfumo rating counts in a snapshot from the end of July 2026, most rated first; no Fragrantica counts were collected for this house. Under the Lemon Trees and Sailing Day stand level, with exactly the same number of ratings.

Replica By the Fireplace

A winter evening indoors: a wood fire crackling while snow falls outside. Pink pepper essence, orange flower absolute and clove oil are on top, a chestnut accord, gaïac wood oil and cade oil in the heart, and a vanilla accord, Peru balsam resinoïd and Cashmeran in the base. With more than 4,000 ratings it is the most rated of the nine on Parfumo.

Replica Jazz Club

A private jazz club in a Brooklyn basement bar, with cocktails being mixed and cigar smoke in the air. Pink pepper essence, primofiore lemon oil and neroli oil open it, rum absolute, clary sage oil and Java vetiver oil follow, and styrax resin, tobacco leaf absolute and vanilla bean CO2 form the base. Rum and vanilla bean stand for the drinks, tobacco leaf and pink pepper for the cigars.

Replica Lazy Sunday Morning

Waking up late in freshly washed linen sheets on a sunny Sunday. The top is a pear accord, a lily of the valley accord and aldehydes, the heart an iris accord, rose absolute and an orange flower accord, the base Indonesian patchouli oil, ambrette seeds absolute and white musks. Lily of the valley and white musks give the clean linen.

Replica Beach Walk

A summer stroll on a sandy beach: warm sun, hot sand, a salty sea breeze and the smell of sunscreen. Bergamot essence, pink pepper essence and lemon essence open it. The heart has four notes, ylang ylang essence, Transluzone, a heliotrope accord and a coconut milk accord, and the base is cedarwood essence, white musks and benzoin resinoïd.

Replica Under the Lemon Trees

A nap in the shade of lemon trees in the countryside on a warm summer day. A kalamansi lime accord, petit grain essence and cardamom essence open it, coriander essence, mate absolute and green tea extract make the heart, and cedarwood essence, cistus absolute and musks the base.

Replica Sailing Day

A day on a boat out at sea, with sea spray, wind in your face and the sun on your back. An aquatic accord, an aldehydes accord and juniper essence open it, coriander essence, iris absolute and rose superessence follow, and the base is red seaweed essence, an ambergris accord and an ambery wood accord. The seaweed and the ambergris accord give a salty, mineral depth.

Replica Bubble Bath

Time to yourself: a hot bath filled to the brim with fragrant foam. A soap bubbles accord, pink pepper essence and bergamot essence open it, a lavender flower accord, rose superessence and jasmine absolute form the heart, and patchouli essence, a coconut milk accord and white musks recall wrapping up in a soft towel.

Replica Coffee Break

A winter break in a coffee shop, with roasted coffee and warm pastries. A coffee accord, a red apple accord and lemon essence are on top, lavender essence, spearmint essence and orange flower absolute in the heart, and a milk mousse accord, sandalwood essence and cedarwood essence in the base. The brand speaks of a classic fougère structure revisited.

Replica Autumn Vibes

A colourful autumn day in the forest: crunching leaves and acorns, fresh air and the woody trail of old trees. Pink pepper CO2 essence, coriander essence and cardamom essence open it, carrot seeds essence, nutmeg essence and olibanum essence shape the heart, and cedarwood heart essence, a moss accord and fir balsam absolute give the forest floor. This is the one page on which the brand names the perfumer, Fanny Bal.
