Roja Parfums: a guide to the house and its perfumes

Roja Parfums was founded in Mayfair, London, in 2011 by Roja Dove. The house describes itself as independent and as a pioneer of haute perfumery, says its fragrances are made in England and presents them in crystal-adorned bottles. Its global flagship boutique is in London's Burlington Arcade. What the house stands for

The range is grouped into collections such as Elysium, Aoud, Isola, Art, Prestige and Apex. A Roja product page tells a scene before it gives a formula: a stranger at the bar of a members' club, a private yacht off a Mediterranean island, a forest out of Shakespeare. The brand also sums up each perfume in four words, such as fresh, uplifting, heroic and sensual for Elysium Pour Homme. Since 2025, the house says, it works with a new generation of perfumers guided by Roja Dove.

What the perfumes have in common

Most Roja perfumes are sold as a 100 ml Eau de Parfum and a 50 ml Parfum. We list five of each concentration: the five Eau de Parfum come in 100 ml, and of the five Parfum four are 50 ml and Diaghilev is 100 ml. The pyramids are long, often twenty notes or more, and several materials return again and again: Rose de Mai, Jasmin de Grasse, oakmoss, benzoin, ambergris. Elysium Pour Homme

A fresh woody citrus that has carried this name since its debut in 2017. Grapefruit, lemon, lavender and thyme open it, a musk keeps the top weightless, apple and blackcurrant follow, and cedarwood and pink pepper run through a warm base of benzoin, vanilla and leather. It has more than 3,000 ratings, by far the most of the ten.

A Midsummer Dream

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream turned into scent. A green, mossy forest floor of patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver carries zesty grapefruit with cardamom and pink pepper for the playful spirit, and musk and Rose de Mai are a nod to Titania's bed. Aldehydes, lemon, bergamot and mandarin complete the top.

Isola Blu

The Mediterranean island of the Isola collection: a day on a private yacht and a villa dinner as the sun goes down. Lemon, bergamot, lime, lavender and thyme lead into a heart of apple, blackcurrant and coconut with champaca and Jasmin de Grasse, over cut grass, amber and a hint of leather that the house links to Italian craftsmanship.

Amber Aoud

An oud shaped by the Middle Eastern tradition of gum resins. Rose de Mai, saffron and oud meet sweet benzoin and fig over a salty ambergris base, with lemon, bergamot and lime on top. The house has a name for the balance of sweet, spicy, salty and woody tones: the Amber Aoud Effect.

Burlington 1819

A tribute to the Burlington Arcade, which opened in 1819. The brand lists only top and base notes for it. Grapefruit, lime, mandarin, bitter orange and a bold mint note open it, ginger and rum add a spicy spark, and patchouli, Casmir wood, tobacco and benzoin form a deep base.

Enigma Pour Homme

A stranger at the bar of a private members' club, wrapped in cognac and tobacco. Bergamot is the only top note on the Parfum's page. Heliotrope adds a powdery, cherry-like fizz, benzoin and vanilla give a balsamic sweetness against the dry tobacco, and cardamom, ginger and pepper lend the smoke a hot spark.

Diaghilev

A theatrical chypré in tribute to Sergei Diaghilev, founder of the Ballets Russes; the brand says it was first made for a Ballets Russes exhibition at London's V&A. It describes a 33-ingredient accord: citrus and tarragon, a floral heart of Jasmin de Grasse, tuberose, heliotrope and violet with blackcurrant buds and peach, over patchouli, oakmoss, leather and labdanum.

Manhattan

Uptown glamour meeting downtown edge, in the house's phrase, and a maximalist take on the energy of New York. Lavender, bergamot and basil open into a heart with heliotrope, violet and coconut, set on dry cedarwood, smoky tobacco and a smooth vanilla base. Pine, clove and cinnamon are in that base as well.

Sweetie Aoud

A gourmand oud set in a royal palace kitchen, where melted butter, caramelised sugar and toasted almond drift through the smoke of agarwood and frankincense. A patisserie accord and Rose de Mai sweeten the aoud wood, and dry wood and leather notes keep the sweetness in balance.

Apex Pour Homme

A fresh, fruity chypré with spiritual and sensual undertones, made to celebrate the natural world and everyone who roams it. Red mandarin and pineapple lead, a green base of patchouli, fir balsam, galbanum and oakmoss grounds it, sandalwood and frankincense add depth, and leather, ambergris and musk sit in the shadows.
